LIVE: 7:34 p.m. Joan Endicott is speaking and the place is packed. She reminded everyone that she has never seen anyone regret being careful about driving. But she has met scores of people who have dreadfully regretted not doing so.
LIVE: 7:25 p.m. Angie Olson is speaking. She mother of Seth Olson, killed because of no seatbelt. His brother, Cody Olson was in a wreck one month later. He was the driver. The crash took lives of two others for not wearing seatbelts.
Buckle Up for Bobby aims to Save Lives and Reduce Serious Injuries due to Car Accidents.
Mark Robert Nielebeck writes: “There is an event TONIGHT if you are looking for a live music show for very little dough ($2) and it’s benefiting a non-profit Buckle Up for Bobby. Take a look at the poster below for details. It’s Sunday night at 6:00pm and will feature custom crafted beverages by Rembrandts Coffee House, live music by CA band The Kimberly Trip fresh off their shows in Seattle and Portland. Music, food, fun, and all benefits go to help educate youthful drivers on how to make smart decisions behind the wheel and in a car!”The organization lists its goals as:
1) Empower teens to turn Adversity into Action (Support programs aimed to reduce teen driving accidents, fatalities and serious injuries). Work with local high schools, law enforcement, transportation department to promote safe driving habits.
2) Establish scholarships funds promoting responsible driving and seat belt use
3) Provide education in schools, churches, youth groups and driver’s ed programs
4) Pursue legislative changes related to seat belt usage in Idaho
Buckle Up for Bobby was established in September of 2012 following the tragic loss of Bobby Rogers (16) and classmate, Tiffany Walters (17) in a car accident in the foothills near Boise, Idaho. Another classmate was seriously injured (17). A 20 y/o passenger walked away. None of the four were wearing seat belts.
“In partnerships with public and private organizations and volunteers, Buckle Up for Bobby, Inc, is seeking a 501(c) (3) status as a non-profit organization,” according to the organiziation’s Facebook page. Buckle Up for Bobby is dedicated to the promotion of seat belt safety to reduce fatalities and serious injuries related to automobile accidents. “
We will work together to empower young people and their communities to turn adversity into action. We will provide education and seat belt awareness programs in the school systems and driver education classes as well as influence legislation regarding seat belt use and transportation issues. We will honor the lives of the individuals lost in traffic accidents by offering informational resources and support for those left behind.
