I can't wait to see Broadway's Biggest Blockbuster at The Morrison Center

I absolutely love this show. It is highly recommended by ... me. My family loves it too. We can barely wait to go!

Why does this show mean so much to us ?
The Addams Family, The Wizard of Oz, The Munsters and other similar classics were always a part of my influences when it comes to enjoying art.

First, let's take a look at its track record. After breaking box office records and selling out in record time in 2011, WICKED, Broadway's biggest blockbuster, will return to the Morrison Center in Boise April 16 - May 4. Having such great theater nearby just brings my inspiration level to an all-time high.

I always loved the Adams Family and other macabre entertainment. So this show,  written by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman (two of the finest creators in all of theater) and based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, is a true delight.

Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the Land of Oz. One - born with emerald-green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

James Patrick, who runs the venue, shares my feelings: "I am very pleased that WICKED is returning to the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts after its sold out 2011 engagement," he said . "This special three week engagement in 2014 will be the longest run of Broadway touring production in the Center's history. What a wonderful milestone!"

The cast is astounding. For starters, the set design is by Tony Award winner Eugene Lee (Ragtime, Show BoatCandideSweeney Todd). And the costume design boasts Tony winner Susan Hilferty (Into the Woods, Assassins);  lighting design by Tony nominee Kenneth Posner (The Coast of Utopia, Hairspray) and sound design by Tony Meola (The Lion King). Stephen Oremus is the show’s musical supervisor. Orchestrations are by William David Brohn, with dance arrangements by James Lynn Abbott.

This is one production that you simply wont want to miss.

The music and lyrics make me move in my seat.Composed by Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Academy Award-winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt), the score will bring you joy and chills. There is the book by Winnie Holzman (“My So Called Life,” “Once And Again” and “thirtysomething”), WICKED, the untold story of the witches of Oz, and direction by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me OutLove! Valour! Compassion!, The Vagina Monologues). It also features musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento (Aida, The Who’s Tommy, How To Succeed...).

I can see why this production is so popular. And here are some examples: WICKED celebrated its 10th Anniversary on October 30th. There are currently nine productions of the musical worldwide: New York, London, Japan (Tokyo), Australia/New Zealand, South Korea (Seoul), Latin America (Mexico City),  a U.K. Tour, and two concurrent North American National Tours.  Broadway’s #1 show for an unprecedented nine consecutive years, WICKED has been declared “A Cultural Phenomenon” by Variety and “The Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly

As a theater lover, I must note that WICKED, has been the  winner of 50 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, is the untold story of the witches of Oz.  It is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.
