Scholastic Media, a division of
Scholastic Inc, the global children’s publishing, education and media
company, announced today that its popular animated series WordGirl,
produced by its animation studio Soup2Nuts, was awarded the Emmy® Award
for "Outstanding Writing in Animation," in recognition of WordGirl’s
mastery of the English language and the series' witty use of characters
and storylines to convey entertaining, educational vocabulary lessons.
Presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on June 17 at
the 39th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy Awards
ceremony, the award is the latest honor – and the second Emmy ®– for
this hit series. WordGirl head writer Tom Martin received the
Emmy Award, along with writers Eric Ledgin, Jack Ferraiolo, John Huss,
Ryan Raddatz, Carla Filisha, Sergio Cilli, Scott Ganz, Rick Groel and
Andrew Samson.
"I am thrilled the Academy has once again chosen to honor the WordGirl writing team for excellence," said Scholastic Media President Deborah Forte, who also serves as Executive Producer of WordGirl and Executive Vice President of Scholastic Inc. "This latest recognition of the program is a testament to the tremendous talent and dedication of our writers, who, like WordGirl, herself, demonstrate the power of choosing the right words."
Now in its fourth season, WordGirl airs on PBS KIDS GO! (check local listings) and has received extraordinary critical acclaim from notable media outlets including People, The New York Daily News, San Francisco Chronicle and The Denver Post. The property has received nearly 30 awards and nominations including seven Emmy® nominations (one for Outstanding Children's Animated Program) and a 2008 Emmy Award win for "Best Writing in Animation." The show has won two Gracie awards for its portrayal of a strong female character, a Television Critics Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Animation," a KidScreen Award for Best Voice Talent, and an iParenting Media Award. WordGirl books are published by Scholastic,series-related games and puzzles are available from Briarpatch, and an app is available for the iPhone.
