Jersey Shore's Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino Indicted For Tax Fraud

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted Jersey Shore alum Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his brother/manager Marc, alleging they did not pay taxes on $8.9 million in income, according to Yahoo News.

"According to the indictment, Michael and Marc Sorrentino filed false tax returns that incorrectly reported millions made from promotions and appearances," U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said in a statement. "The brothers allegedly also claimed costly clothes and cars as business expenses and funneled company money into personal accounts. The law is absolutely clear: telling the truth to the IRS is not optional."

Michael Paul Sorrentino (born July 4, 1981) known by his nickname The Situation, is an American television personality. He appeared on the MTV reality show Jersey Shore in all six seasons from December 2009 through its final episode in 2012.

The former star of the MTV reality show "Jersey Shore" and his brother filed bogus tax returns on nearly $9 million and claimed millions in business expenses — including luxury vehicles and clothing — that were actually for personal use, according to the indictment.


The brothers pleaded not guilty through their attorneys during a brief initial appearance in U.S. District Court.

Christopher Adams, an attorney for Marc Sorrentino, said that the government's case has enormous holes:



"He has spent the better part of a year trying to show them flaws in their theory, and it is unfortunate that the government has chosen to rely on the word of a disgraced accountant who is a proven liar," Adams told The Associated Press in an email.


Richard Sapinski, an attorney representing Mike Sorrentino, didn't comment after the hearing and didn't return media messages seeking comment.
